How much do solar shingles cost?
About $21 to $25 per square foot installed (average $23), or $27,600 to $60,000 for an average-size roof, according to Fixr. EnergySage's range for a full system is wider: $40,000 to over $300,000 before incentives. There is no federal tax credit for installs completed in 2026.

The shingle row includes tear-off, a permit and a dumpster; the solar figures do not say what they include, so the bases differ.
At Fixr's per-square-foot range, covering the whole 2,236 sq ft roof of a 2,000 sq ft single-story home in solar shingles would be $46,956 to $55,900. Whole-project prices vary with how much of the roof is active solar. Fixr also quotes $3.50 to $8 per watt of capacity.
What changes the price
- System size. How much of the roof is active solar, measured in watts.
- Brand and availability. Electrek reported on August 20, 2026 that Tesla has stopped supplying its Solar Roof tiles to installers; Tesla had not confirmed it in the sources we checked.
- The roof itself. Tear-off, decking and complexity apply as on any roof (new roof cost, decking).
- Incentives. The federal 25D credit ended for expenditures after December 31, 2025. State and utility programs may still exist.

It depends on the system. GAF says its Timberline Solar pricing is comparable to a new roof plus rack-mounted panels; EnergySage still says to expect $40,000 to $100,000 for a full Timberline Solar system. Get quotes for both.
Is there a tax credit for solar shingles in 2026?
No. The IRS says the 25D residential clean energy credit, which covered solar roofing tiles and shingles, is not allowed for expenditures made after December 31, 2025, and an installation completed after that date counts as made after it.
Is Tesla still selling the Solar Roof?
