What fascia and soffit do
Fascia is the vertical board along the roof edge; gutters are fastened to it and the roof's drip edge laps over it. Soffit is the underside of the overhang, and vented soffit is a common place for attic intake vents. Rot usually starts where water gets behind a gutter or where the drip edge is missing.
What changes the price
- Material. Wood, aluminum-wrapped wood, vinyl and composite are all used; the per-foot ranges cover the spread.
- Rot behind the board. Rafter tails or decking found rotten behind the fascia add carpentry; decking is priced per sheet.
- Gutters. Gutters have to come off and go back on. If they are near the end of their life, price new ones at the same time: gutter cost.
- Height. Second-story runs need more ladder or lift time.
